Megane Bridge

Overview

Megane Bridge or Meganebashi (眼鏡橋) is a stone double-arch bridge over the Nakajima River in Nagasaki city. It was built in 1634 and it is one of the oldest existing arched stone bridges and was designated as a National Important Cultural Property in 1960.

Magene Bridge is one of the three most famous bridges in Japan (other 2 bridges are Nihonbashi in Tokyo and Kintai Bridge in Yamaguchi).

The bridge was partially collapsed by the flood that hit Nagasaki in 1982, but it was restored the following year.

In recent years, the bridge has become popular as an Instagram-worthy spot due to its unique shape and picturesque scenery.

Actually crossing the bridge is a valuable experience and a great photo opportunity, so this is a great spot to visit when staying in Nagasaki City.
