Kurokawa Onsen
Overview
Kurokawa Onsen is a hot spring located in Minami-Oguni-Cho, Aso County in Kumamoto prefecture, north of Mt. Aso.
Kurokawa Onsen is known as one of the most popular hot spring resorts in Japan. It was listed in the 2009 edition of the Michelin Green Guide Japan with two stars for a hot spring resort.
There are 30 cozy Japanese-style ryokans on both sides of the river valley in the Kurokawa Onsen area. All 30 ryokans and the landscape are considered to be “one ryokan.” The roads are the corridors, trees and flowers are the plants in the courtyard, and the hot springs and ryokans are all part of one large ryokan. Kurokawa Onsen has a regional philosophy of welcoming visitors throughout the region.
One interesting system in Kurokawa Onsen is “bathing pass” that allows visitors to explore open-air hot springs in the area. You can enjoy up to three hot springs in the area with 1 pass. At Kurokawa Onsen, you will be able to enjoy the best open-air hot springs in a natural setting.
