Daikanbo & Milk Road

Overview

Daikanbo (大観峰) is a mountain located in Aso City of Kumamoto prefecture. Its elevation is 935.9 meters above sea level.

Daikanbo is the best view spot in Aso City where you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city of Aso, Five Mountains of Aso (Takadake, Nakadake, Nekodake, Karasubodake, and Kishima-dake), and the Kujyu mountain range. Mount Aso is a large compound volcano with a caldera. And, it is an active volcano.

On sunny mornings, you can watch the beautiful sunrise. And, it is also a popular spot for astronomical observation.

In fall and winter, you can see a mysterious sea of clouds. Sea of clouds can often be seen where there is a difference in temperature, high humidity, and no wind.

The popular place in Daikanbo is a Aso Daikanbo teahouse that has many desserts made with Jersey milk. One popular dessert is Jersey milk soft ice cream.

Driving along Milk road is the best way to reach Daikanbo. Milk road is a perfect course for a drive. On either side of the Milk road are unobstructed views of the meadows, gentle curves, and other spectacular sights on a large scale.
